Is it sad that it took me a while to figure out what you meant, because Tractors on the street are really common back home?

Where I grew up if it isn’t made by one of the “Big 3” it’s exotic.

In all honesty, I have been here a week and it was the first one I saw. Once I thought about it I was surprised it took a week.

God, I love the John Deere gearbox. It’s not as fun as the New Holland semi-synchronous, but it’s great to work and drive. 8/10

No shit, when I had my 1st generation Eagle Talon I had a idiot hillbilly come up to at a gas station and tell me “it’s one of them Jap cars in disguise.”

It’s not that bad now, based on my casual observations it’s about 50/50 foreign to domestic. But, when I was young the only foreign vehicles running around were sport bikes and a handful of used BMW’s and Mercedes.

Spits skoal juice in empty 32 ounce styrofoam sweet tea cup- “What’s next, you fittin’ to tell me I can’t drive this to the Wal-mart.”

EDIT: I believe the word should be “fittina”

Seeing a combine harvester taking up both lanes, coming torward me at the top of a blind hill in the woods has always been one of my biggest fears.

Back in drivers ed one of my friends got stuck being a combine for like 30 minutes. It was a long 30 minutes.

If it ain’t a Green, it ain’t a machine.

He probably has a Cat front end loader and a Peterbilt to pull his Great Dane trailer. ‘Murica.

In this area the farmers are actually very courteous and careful when they are on the street. They are also really good about pulling over when there’s traffic stuck behind them.

Funny enough there is a (the?) Great Dane factory about 30 minutes from here. Corn, Great Dane and freedom. ‘Murica

Around here the farmers are really good about getting out of the way if there’s cars behind them. Most of them just drive half on the shoulder, half in the ditch, if they are on a a road where they can do it.

Some gearboxes on trucks are pretty similar to tractors. Was it semi-synchronous?

He tried to but two problems, it was really damn wide, and we also couldn’t get past him because anytime we had a chance to pass there was oncoming traffic. He went a long way out there. They are usually pretty good about it though, just no luck being able to get around him.

No, it was an old as shit (1977 I think) International with a 7-speed manual. That truck was a beast though.

As I recall, they have 8-9 manufacturing plants in the US. HQ in Moline. Where are you?

I am in Paris, IL, it’s fancy that’s why it’s named Paris.

There is a factory in Terre Haute, IN which is the one I was talking about originally, after doing some research they have alot more factories than I thought. There is also one in Brazil, IN., which means I am within 30 minutes of 2 of their factories.

Had to look up Paris. You are definitely in the corn belt. Seems like there is an ethanol plant everywhere the last time I drove through that part of the country.

Being an old international I’d suppose it wasn’t fully synchronous. A friend had one and it was a bitch to drive.

Even if it was a synchronised gearbox, props for driving one. Massive Jalop points.

Yes, as my wife likes to call it “super country.”

There was talk of putting an ethanol plant in this area but it never worked out. They ended up putting it in Decatur, IL, which is almost an hour away. They should have put it here, there’s not too many good jobs in the area.

You know what, now that I think about it, it wasn’t synced. I don’t know what the hell I was thinking when I read your post earlier.

The best part was, I was driving it at 14. Illinois had, at the time, I’m not sure about now, a law where you could get a “farm” license. Basically, if you were working on a family farm you could get a license from May-August to drive any vehicle with agricultural plates.

I worked at the farm of some family friends for 3 summers. I had a blast tearing ass around in farm trucks those summers.

That’s awesome! Most guys who helped in farms I know learned to drive at about 13 or 14. Really awesome.

I usually spent my school vacations on the farm too. Both summer and winter.

We had grain and cattle.

Corn and Soy in the Summer, Wheat and Barley in the Winter. Charolais cows.

I was mostly working with the cattle, as I had to manage the pasture, silage and check their health. It was a fun job. Sometimes I miss it very much.
